We are a twelve-person studio in Cape Town — that is worth saying plainly, up front. Most of our clients are UK technology companies of seven to thirty people whose product is the business, and the reason it works is unglamorous: we are one to two hours ahead of London, so you get a genuinely shared working day and senior engineers who stay on your codebase for years rather than months.

Distance is a real cost in software, and it is paid in latency — how long a question waits for an answer. That is the part we engineered away.
One to two hours ahead
South Africa keeps SAST (UTC+2) all year and never changes clocks. That puts us two hours ahead of London in winter and one hour ahead through British Summer Time — no seasonal drift to plan around.
A shared afternoon
Standups happen while everyone is awake. A question asked at 10am in London is answered before lunch, not the following morning — which over a nine-month build is the difference between weeks of latency and none.
The same people, for years
Our engineers stay on the codebases they wrote. The person who answers a question in month twenty is the person who made the decision in month two — the single thing distance genuinely threatens, and the thing we protect hardest.

You need the engineering function you don’t have
A UK company where the product is core to the commercial model, there is no reliable internal engineering team, and a founder or technical leader is personally accountable for delivery. You want process, architecture and shipping handled — not a vendor to manage.
Something just changed
A vendor failed or exited and the deadline has not moved. A funding round landed and the clock is running. Or the business changed shape and the engineering capacity that was just about enough no longer is.
Where we’d say no
Sitting alongside an existing in-house team on the same codebase, where nobody truly owns the outcome. Pre-revenue companies without confirmed funding. Regulated financial services, where the domain knowledge bar is higher than we can honestly clear. We would rather point you elsewhere.

Where are you actually based?
Cape Town, South Africa — one studio, twelve people, in the Old Castle Brewery in Woodstock. We have no UK office and do not pretend otherwise. What we have is a working day that overlaps yours almost entirely, and senior engineers who stay on your codebase for years.
How much of the working day do we actually share?
Nearly all of it. South Africa runs on SAST (UTC+2) all year, so we are two hours ahead of London in winter and one hour ahead during British Summer Time. Our afternoon is your afternoon: a question at 10am London time gets an answer before lunch, not overnight.
Have you delivered for UK companies before?
Yes — WorX (enterprise software, retained across web and mobile), Ecosulis (ecological restoration, field data and dashboards) and CreditNature (climate fintech in Oxfordshire, the NARIA platform). Three UK engagements, all with case studies on this site, and references available on request.
Who owns the code and the IP?
You do, in full — code, designs, infrastructure and documentation, the same as every Origen engagement. Repositories and cloud accounts live in your organisation, not ours. Nothing about the arrangement leaves you dependent on us to keep operating.
What about UK data protection?
We build to the requirements your counsel sets: UK or EU data residency where it is needed, encryption in transit and at rest, least-privilege access, and audit trails where they matter. We are your engineers rather than your DPO, so we raise these questions early rather than at launch.
Do you ever come to the UK?
For engagements where it earns its keep — a kickoff, a workshop, a quarterly review. Most of the work runs perfectly well remotely, which after five years of UK clients we can say from experience rather than hope.
